About Me

This blog serves as an account of the trials and adventures I come across in my life as a scientist. This is me, Julia Stevens. I am a microbial ecologist that uses DNA to tell the stories of microorganisms. My favorite area of study is the relationship between host organisms and their microbes, especially when that host happens to be an invasive species.

This is where I work in the Genomics and Microbiology Lab in the Nature Research Center. We are an exhibit within the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh, NC. Visitors of the museum can watch us work as they learn about all the exciting ways we use DNA to learn about the world around us.
